It’s all in the ‘Details’

Local home accents store ‘loves’ being a part of the city

Details, a home boutique shop in Avon, has been selling unique home decor in the city for 15 years and owner Lori Caffo-Miles has no plans to go elsewhere.

“This is home,” CaffoMiles said, when talking about Avon. “It’s a great community of people who have supported us over the years and that is why Details has remained in Avon.”

Caffo-Miles said home boutiques have always been her passion.

“My background is in the hotel and restaurant business,” she said. “I spent all that time working for others and I decided to do something for myself. It was so natural to slide into retail, I knew it and I knew home boutiques. Details is the perfect blend of the two.”

Caffo-Miles said she started the store in Avon because she saw a need.

“I really didn’t see any business with home accents in the area,” she said. “So I knew my business would be able to take advantage of something people would want and corner a specific market.”

Caffo-Miles said business has been good.

“We have experienced a steady increase during our time here,” she said. “It’s not a situation where we had an incredible start and flamed out. We’ve been able to continue to bring people in. That is a testament to the type of product we have and the customer-friendly atmosphere we provide through our employees.”

Caffo-Miles said Details wasn’t the only business she had in the city.

“I used to have baby store here in town,” she said. “It sold supplies for babies, strollers, clothes and other items of that nature. It was doing well, but it was too much to manage both. My true passion lies with home decor, so I decided to close the baby store. It was tough to close the store, but it is important to be honest with yourself and to solely do what you enjoy most. Life is too short to do otherwise.”

Caffo-Miles said the business’s increase is due to how it keeps up with trends.

“Home decor is about finding what’s new on the market and staying on top of the latest thing,” she said. “People continue to come in because they know they will be able to find what everyone is looking for. This could be the latest piece of furniture or table accessory. We’re always going to switch it up and keep things fresh. The problem for us is not being able to supply the product, but finding room to store everything. It’s a good problem to have.”

Caffo-Miles said Avon has been good to her business.

“Other than the year Detroit Road was torn up, we’ve continually had good business here,” she said. “We have a lot of repeat customers. I’ve formed very good relationships with the people in this city. It has been fun getting to know people and the growing community in Avon has only helped the business. The more homes you build, the more home accents will be needed, so the Avon increase has helped the business in many ways.”

Caffo-Miles could not imagine leaving Avon nor does she really want to.

“My husband and I have lived in the city for 20 years,” she said. “I have thought about what it would be like to move, but it isn’t something I feel I would want. We have a great location and I feel the business benefits from that. Details has also built a great level of familiarity with its customers. It’s a first-name basis kind of situation I have with a lot of these people. Even the mayor shops here. People also invite me into their homes to help them place their purchases in the best spot. We’ve had a great run in Avon and it will only get better.”
