PolyOne acquires naming rights to recreation facility
Avon Lake City Council approved an agreement with PolyOne Corp. for the naming rights to the city’s new recreation facility at Artstown Plaza, 33483 Lake Road.
Known as the The Anchor and Avon Lake Recreation Facility sponsored by PolyOne, the Avon Lake-based company will make a $30,000 contribution in two $15,000 installments, said Ward
2 Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch.
PolyOne will be featured prominently with a marquee sign over the entrance, a sign panel for the shopping center and a three color logo at the center of the multi-court recreation center which will be added in March.
The agreement’s approval by Council comes following recommendations from its finance committee Feb. 19 and public service Feb. 26.
During the finance committee meeting, Fendersbosch said her ward is home to many PolyOne employees who are committed to the Avon Lake community.
“We have a lot of employees in Avon Lake,” she said. “In my ward alone, I have 50 of the top employees...
“So, they really do participate in our community in many ways and don’t just drive here to work. They purchase goods at the grocery store, their kids are in school and they pay property taxes.”
In addition to the logos, PolyOne will receive employee discounts, 50 one-day individual day passes to use.
Employees also may take part in a weekly wellness hour from 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays.
“It took a while to get this thing worked out, but both sides are very, very pleased with the relationship,” said Mayor Greg Zilka.
The Anchor held its grand opening ceremony Feb. 21 to much fanfare with representatives from the city and the Cleveland Cavaliers on hand to unveil the facility, which includes a 70 x 100 foot basketball court which can accommodate a number of different sports and fitness classes.
The project came together in partnership with the city and the Patton family and included about $130,000 in renovations to the location of the former Avon Lake movie theater.
