Zoning commission member announces bid for commissioner
A Camden Township zoning commission member has announced he’s running for a seat on the Lorain County Commission.
John Ciarrone launched his campaign Feb. 28, according to a news release.
Ciarrone, a Republican, is a retired speech-language pathologist.
Most recently, he served more than 20 years in the public school system with North Point Educational Service Center.
Prior to that, Ciarrone worked for two county boards of developmental disabilities as a language development specialist and case manager.
He also served as a program director for seven Lorain County residential homes for adults with developmental disabilities, the release said.
“If there is something my 30 years of public service has taught me, it’s that Americans everywhere want the same things: sage homes and communities, opportunities to earn a livable wage, access to affordable health care and educational choice and opportunities,” he wrote in the release. “As commissioner, I commit to represent the citizens of the entire county of Lorain, including the outlying townships.”
Ciarrone added if elected he is committed to working to attract industry and technology in the county and will promote economic development and job training for all people, including those with intellectual disabilities.
In addition, he said he will look to maintain low sales taxes and find creative ways to develop new revenue sources.
“I am excited to be presented with this opportunity to serve the people of Lorain County, and I look forward to collaborating with my fellow commissioners to make Lorain County the best place in Ohio to live, work, learn and play,” Ciarrone wrote.
Ciarrone’s opponent is incumbent Commissioner Matt Lundy, a Democrat.
