Lake Ridge’s Harrison gets All-Ohio nod
Senior leads area honorees in D-III, IV
The Division III and IV AllOhio teams were released on March 12, and The Morning Journal area was well-represented.
The voting was done March 11 at the OHSAA offices in Columbus by district chairmen throughout the state, as well as members of the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association, which now sponsors the All-Ohio process.
Among the nine area athletes honored, Lake Ridge senior Michaela Harrison received top-billing as a member of the Division IV second team.
Harrison, the Northeast Lakes District D-IV Player of the Year, averaged 16.9 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.4 steals per game. She was voted the Lorain County D-IV Player of the Year and helped lead the Royals to a 13-10 record and the Norwayne District semifinals.
Harrison was a first team All-Ohio member as a junior.
Joining Harrison from the Royals was Allyson Ross, who received honorable mention. The freshman guard averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game for Lake Ridge.
Fellow D-IV team Open Door had a pair of athletes honored as well, with sophomore Emily McClain pegged for third team and junior Emily Werley receiving honorable mention.
McClain averaged 16.5 points along with 3.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game for the Patriots, while Werley averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
In Division III, state semifinalist Elyria Catholic had a pair of athletes honored in sophomore Ally Winnen and junior Faith Williams.
Winnen, who averages a double-double at 12.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, was given special mention, while Williams, who averages 10.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, received honorable mention.
Joining the Panthers’ duo from the area were Lutheran West’s Raiyah Johnson (special mention; 10.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.0 apg, 3.5 spg) and Carleen Ellerbruch (honorable mention; 9.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 bpg), as well as Oberlin’s Karissa Rankin (honorable mention; 15.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 1.2 spg)
The Division I and Division II teams will be released at 6 p.m. on March 13. Ohio Miss Basketball will be announced at 6 p.m. on March 14.
