Sounding off

A bill in the Ohio House would require drivers to move over for garbage trucks as they do for emergency vehicles. Readers on our Facebook page shared their thoughts on the proposal.

No we shouldn’t not move for them. They aren’t going to try to save someone’s life or keep people safe on the side of the road. Doesn’t warrant them being elevated to that status.

— Chuck Kopp

Some idiot drivers will not yield for emergency vehicles, what makes anyone think they will yield for garbage trucks.

— Scott Stanley

As someone that regularly works in the road and/or on the edge of the road, I can assure you that NO law will EVER work.

A lot of people play this game called, “How close can I get”.

All the laws in the world can’t teach common sense!

The original slow down or move over law should just include any and all vehicles on the edge of the road with blinking or flashing lights.

Also, I believe more work needs to not only be done in driver training classes but in some sort of continued education classes.

Tell me one other scenario where you get a license at the age of 16 +/- and there is Zero continued education classes and the only thing you have to do is pass some nonsense eye exam!.

— Joe Spellman

Yes, by all means, get ALL THE WAY INTO THE OTHER LANE WHEN PASSING THEM. People actually think they mean to pull over to be passed by a garbage truck?

— Kirk Scheithauer

Headline is misleading. They are not saying move over to let them pass you. You have to move over a lane to pass them. Need to give them some clearance and not pass so closely. Kind of like common sense.

— Robert Smith

Are they trying to do like NYC City at lease when they move their cars everyother day except for Sunday they clean the side of the streets with a cleaning truck this is not a City where I live absolutely not I disapprove because I know damn well they won’t even send a clean up truck on that day they will make excuses we don’t have the money for it and you want favors in return give me a break tell your garbage truck drivers to blow their horns.!!!.

— Matilda Fonseca Rivera

So do you get over for them to pass u then when they stop u can pass them and the just do that over and over again til u get to where u are going? This would make 0 sense.

— Brian Szucs

I’d rather have to move over for a garbage truck or a mailman then someone on a bicycle who could just use the sidewalk like they’re supposed to.

— Dave Rounds

I do wait for them, because they are big and stopping a lot but when i can, I go around. We dont need to move over for them, but both parties need to be courteous. Let s not add laws that we really don t need.

— Deb Brady

Well, if you don’t move over when it stops then you’ll slam into the back of it ...... do our law makers really think we are that stupid ?.

— Jim See

Corporate Profits.. The ONLY emergency our useless politicians ever see anymore. People can just die, for all they care.
