Public Library swears in newest board member

The Avon Lake Public Library Board of Trustees welcomed Matthew Pastron as its newest member March 8, according to a news release.

Pastron was sworn in by Rebecca Schaltenbrand, president of the Avon Lake Public Library Board of Trustees.

Pastron will fulfill a seven-year term from March 2018 through December 2024, the release said.

An Avon Lake resident for several years, Pastron brings to the board a passion for libraries and serving the community he has grown to love, the release said.

“It’s about involvement with local government, resources and philanthropies, which are not only a great way to give back, but a reinvestment in the community,” he said. “I’m excited to serve on a board committed to the Library’s success.”

Pastron’s work in human resources, workforce analytics, organizational development and succession planning are a welcome set of skills to the Board, the release said.

In addition, Pastron brings past volunteer experiences with Habitat for Humanity, United Way and Locks of Love, according to the release.

His enthusiasm and support, when talking about the importance of Avon Lake Public Library in the community, is evident, the release said.

“The Library serves as a wonderful resource for the Avon Lake community to meet, gather, learn, grow and connect,” Pastron said. “The Library is fortunate to have strong, local resident and business support.”

The Avon Lake Public Library Board of Trustees and staff are excited to welcome Pastron and have him as a part of the future of the Library, the release said.

In the process of selecting a new trustee per the library Board of Trustee policy, Pastron was interviewed and recommended by the Library Board of Trustees to the Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education for the opening, the release said.

Board of Education members then reviewed the recommendation and officially approved Pastron’s appointment at their February 2018 meeting, the release said.
