Open Door’s Brooks leads area D-III, IV All-Ohioans

Five area players were named to the Division III and IV All-Ohio teams released by the OHSAA on March 19.

In D-IV, Open Door’s Trey Brooks was named first-team AllOhio after another standout season for the 6-foot-4 junior. Brooks averaged 21.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per game and was named Lorain County D-IV Co-Player of the Year as well as first team AllNorthea­st Lakes District.

Oberlin’s Devan Yarber was named to the second team, averaging 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 3.5 steals this season. The 5-foot-11 senior also earned Lorain County D-IV Co-Player of the Year honors along with Brooks.

Open Door junior Jared Bublinec was given honorable mention.

In D-III, Elyria Catholic’s Dorian Crutcher and Wellington’s Maxwell Joppeck were selected for second team All-Ohio. Both Crutcher and Joppeck were named Lorain County D-III Co-Players of the Year late last month and were each first team AllNorthea­st Lakes District honorees, with Crutcher named D-III Northeast Lakes District Player of the Year.

In his senior season, Crutcher averaged 23.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The 6-foot-4 guard also added 77 3-pointers to make him the Panthers’ all-time leader with 164 total 3s and finished with 1,248 career points to become Elyria Catholic’s all-time leading scorer.

Joppeck had a breakout season for Wellington as the 6-foot-5 senior averaged 23.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game. In the Dukes’ district semifinal loss to Manchester on March 5, Joppeck finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Columbia senior Josh Borling was named thirdteam All-Ohio in a season in which he averaged 17.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks for the Raiders.

Elyria Catholic’s Jarred Logan and Wellington’s Colton Schmidt were given honorable mention.
