Avon City Council passed resolutions March 19 to authorize the advertisement of bids for road infrastructure improvements.

Council will pursue asphalt resurfacing for 875 feet of Lilac Lane starting from the cul-de-sac and extending east to the Garden Drive intersection.

Violet Court will consist of 825 feet of resurfacing beginning at Lilac Lane and extending south to Primrose Lane, extending west and south to the Periwinkle Way cul-de-sac.

Ryan Cummins, engineer for the city of Avon, said after the competitive bidding process is concluded and Council approves a contract, construction could begin in early June.

Cummins said the project is similar to road construction on Wisteria Lane in 2017.

The work will consist of grinding away of the existing asphalt surface and replacing it with two layers of asphalt concrete and a gravel chip seal layer, he said.

Crews also will work on sidewalk, curb ramps and perform catch basin repairs at certain locations in addition to the reinstallation of impacted pavement markings, maintenance of traffic and associated lawn restoration.

Council also authorized the advertisement of bids for spot asphalt improvements to Moore Road north of Chester Road due to normal “wear and tear.”

“We have walked the area with the street department and identified a number of areas to be corrected,” Cummins said.

Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen noted more road infrastructure projects would come before Council in the coming weeks and the projects were approved to get the ball rolling.

In addition, Jensen said after receiving feedback from residents, he would like to explore completing work on Candlewood Drive and Sandalwood Drive to Council’s priorities depending on available funding.

“The road’s just disintegrated,” the mayor said. “Everybody knows so. We’ve kind of jumped from Candlewood and Sandalwood and said okay, let’s go over and do this other project that’s more important.

“We’ve done most of the repairs and it probably could hold until next year. But because a commitment was made last year to finish it, if there’s funding available, I’d almost like to put something on very similar, at the same time.”
