Manning gets money for center

State Sen. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) secured $500,000 in the state’s $2.62 billion Capital budget to fund the developmen­t of a recovery center for those battling addiction in Lorain County, according to a news release.

The bill signed into law March 30 by Gov. John Kasich will convert the former Golden Acres Nursing Home, 45999 North Ridge Road in Amherst, to Recovery One in Lorain.

The Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Lorain County in collaborat­ion with The LCADA Way and the Lorain County Board of Mental Health will work together to provide recovery services to those battling addiction, the release said.

“I was proud to partner with our local leaders and elected officials to secure funding for this effort to provide for this recovery center in Lorain County,” Manning said. “This effort, along with others, is our priority locally and in the state legislatur­e.

“We must continue to work hard to combat the opioid crisis facing our state and provide resources, like this center, that will help people on the road to recovery, get their lives back together.”

The news made waves among Lorain County officials with messages of support.

Thomas Stuber, president and CEO of The LCADA Way, said Manning has continuall­y stepped forward to help lead efforts to combat the opioid epidemic plaguing this region, dating back to the naxalone initiative to her most recent efforts to assist in improving efforts and increasing funding for those struggling with addiction.

holistic care center to provide services for persons in active addition and support them toward long-term recovery.

“The services that will be designed for this facility will assist in addressing the devastatin­g human, economic and societal impacts of opioid abuse, overdose and death in Lorain County as well as offering services for other substance abuse disorders, including alcoholism,” Georgas said.

Kathleen Kerns, executive director of the Lorain County Board of Mental Health, said, “I fully support Sen. Manning’s efforts to enhance behavioral healthcare options in Lorain County. The mental health network is ready to contribute expertise and partnershi­p to the local team as they develop this new resource for residents who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders.”
