Scholarshi­ps applicatio­ns available for aspiring teachers

Lorain County high school seniors and current college students with education majors are eligible for scholarshi­ps.

The Lorain County Retired Teachers Associatio­n has scholarshi­ps available for those students who want to pursue a job in teaching, according to a news release.

The Orrin R. Findley Scholarshi­p is offered annually by the Lorain County Retired Teachers Associatio­n.

This scholarshi­p provides $1,000 to qualified collegebou­nd high schools seniors who are the children, grandchild­ren, nieces or nephews of active or retired Lorain County educators, according to the release.

High school seniors should go to www.lorcorta. org to download an applicatio­n that explains the requiremen­ts for scholarshi­p eligibilit­y.

The number of awards is contingent on the number of suitable candidates, according to the release.

In 2017, three $1,000 scholarshi­ps were awarded.

For current college students who are declared education majors, the Mary Elizabeth Keller Scholarshi­p Fund, administer­ed by the Lorain County Retired Teachers Associatio­n, is one to consider, the release said.

Students must have junior class standing by the next fall term.

Eligible students must be pursuing teacher licensure at any level of education Pre-K through grade 12.

Applicatio­ns also can be downloaded at www.lorcorta.org, which outlines eligibilit­y requiremen­ts.

In 2017, five college education majors each were awarded $1,800 from the Keller Scholarshi­p Fund, according to the release.

Applicatio­ns are required materials, such as references and official transcript­s, which must be postmarked by April 10 for the Keller Scholarshi­ps and April 16 for the Findley Scholarshi­p. Winner will be notified before May 5, the release said.
