CATCH UP WITH WELLINGTON

-

If you need to catch up on your Wellington history:

• Obtain a Wellington Bicentennial calendar for free at Main Street Wellington Inc., 118 W. Herrick Ave., or at the Spirit of ‘76 Museum, 201 N. Main St. in Wellington. Bicentennial events are listed for each month and there is a master list of key dates in village history.

• Calendars generally are available at the historical speaker series events scheduled each month this year. The next one is May 22, when speaker Scott Markell will present “Archibald Willard and Family and the Story of Spirit of ‘76.” The free events are open to the public. The events are held at the Patricia Lindley Center for the Performing Arts, 627 N. Main St. • Attend the Wellington Bicentennial Ball from 5-11 p.m., April 21, at the Wellington Eagles Lodge 2051. Tickets are $25 and remain available at the lodge, 631 S. Main St. There will be dinner, a cash bar and music by the band Chance. Period dress is preferred; or semiformal attire is suggested.

• Visit the Spirit of ‘76 Museum. It is named for the “Spirit of ‘76” painting, which also is known as “Yankee Doodle,” by Wellington artist Archibald Willard. The museum is open from 1-3:30 p.m., April to October.

• Make a virtual visit. There are Facebook pages dedicated to Wellington’s Bicentennial and Memory Lane Wellington. The village of Wellington and Main Street Wellington maintain web pages.
