Horizon students show off artwork
Typically, the mission at Horizon Science Academy is to prepare students to succeed in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. Not anymore. The high school art students’ talent is quickly altering the school’s philosophy into a STEAM (“A” for Art) approach.
On April 7 at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, Horizon students showcased their talents by winning multiple categories at the Art Fair Competition. This year the Art Fair had a juried show with a panel of seven judges, some of whom are local artists, graduates of Cleveland Institute of Art and fellow educators.
There were three grade level categories with three prizes per group (first, second and third place) K-4, 5-8, and 9-12, Additionally, there were Best in Show, People’s Choice, and “Juror’s” choice awards.
Horizon winners included: Senior Division for Grades 9-12: Luis Massa — 1st place; Jazmin Hernandez — 2nd place
People’s Choice Award: Luis Massa — 1st place
Juror’s Choice: Paige Nichols — Juror’s Choice Award.
