Drug bust nets pair of arrests
Elyria men face multiple charges
Two Elyria men are facing multiple drug charges following police searches April 28, according to a police report.
At 1:30 p.m. detectives from the Elyria Police Narcotics Unit searched an apartment in the 1400 block of West River Road following a month-long drug investigation.
They retrieved a bag that was strapped to the body of one of the suspects.
The bag contained multiple bags of cocaine totaling between 20 and 27 grams and about 4.3 grams of fentanyl along with a small digital scale. Investigators also found $380 in cash in the suspect’s front pocket, a small bag of marijuana and a cellphone detectives were able to link to a recent overdose, the report said.
According to police, the apartment was leased by the suspect’s uncle who investigators accuse of allowing to use for drug sales.
Additional search warrants were executed at an address in the 200 block of Whitman Boulevard and a 2002 Honda Civic located at the address.
Kenneth B. Ward Jr., 44, of Elyria, is charged with felony trafficking and possession of cocaine and fentanyl, and possession of criminal tools and drug paraphernalia.
Wallace A. Carey Jr., 58, of Elyria, is charged with felony permitting drug abuse and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Carey is being held at the Lorain County Jail on $2,750 bond and Ward was being held on $40,000 bond.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on May 8 for preliminary hearings, according to court records.
