A Lorain County attorney was recognized April 27 for his dedication to ethics in the practice of law.
Daniel A. Cook received the Ohio State Bar Association’s 2018 Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and Professionalism during the association’s Council of Delegates meeting, according to a news release.
“Cook, a veteran litigator from Lorain County, embodies that high standard of professionalism to which we each hold ourselves,” Ohio State Bar Association President Randall Comer said in the release. “He is widely respected among his peers and has set an example for all to follow.”
The award was established in 1998 in honor of late board member Eugene R. Weir, who championed improvements to regulations on lawyers and advocated for professionalism and legal ethics, according to the release.
It is given to one attorney each year who worked to “promote and uphold legal professionalism and ethics,” the release said.
Cook has practiced law for five decades after receiving his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1967. He is a member of the litigation department and chair of the board for Wickens Herzer Panza in Lorain County. He has also served as the former board president for Second Harvest Food Bank, according to the release.
The release said Cook has also served as president on the Lorain County Bar Association’s Legal Ethics & Grievance Committee and as bar counsel. He is now serving as the interim bar counsel for the county.
As a member of the grievance committee, Cook has prosecuted a number of disciplinary cases before Board of Commissioners of Grievance and Discipline of the Ohio Supreme Court, the release said.
