Woman pleads in stabbing case

An Amherst woman has admitted to an amended indictment that she stabbed a man in June.

Aimee L. Boggs, 44, pleaded guilty to misdemeano­r assault May 7 for the stabbing just before she was scheduled to stand trial on a single count of felonious assault before Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge D. Chris Cook.

According to a report, Amherst police were dispatched just after 9 p.m., June 26, to a house on North Main Street for a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found Boggs on the front porch and began their investigat­ion, the report said.

Cook will sentence Boggs on June 22.

Factory fire under investigat­ion

The Elyria Fire department is investigat­ing a fire that occurred at United Initiators.

The department responded to 555 Garden St., at 11:39 a.m., May 7, after the business’s fire alarm went off, according to the Elyria Fire Department.

The fire was a small one and was extinguish­ed by the plant’s on-site suppressio­n system which uses a combinatio­n of water and foam, the department said.

No one was injured and everyone was safely evacuated during the incident, the Elyria Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire as well as the total monetary damage is still being looked into by both United Initiators and the fire department.

Bomb squad to conduct training

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad will conduct training exercises from noon to 2 p.m. May 8, which will include the detonation of explosive devices, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Residents who live in Carlisle Township, eastern part of Amherst Township, western end of the city of Elyria and southern end of Elyria Township may hear the explosions, the release said.

OHP to conduct OVI checkpoint

The Highway Patrol’s Elyria Post announced May 7 that troopers will operate an OVI checkpoint to deter and intercept impaired drivers in Lorain County, according to a news release.

The Patrol will announce the checkpoint location the morning of May 11, according to the release.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make driving arrangemen­ts, the release said.

Local law enforcemen­t officers will provide operationa­l support for the checkpoint, according to the release.
