Multiple charges in Elyria traffic stop

-

Three Elyria residents are facing numerous charges following a traffic stop on May 15, according to a police report.

At 12:19 a.m. in the area of Allen Street and Barbara Street, Elyria police observed a vehicle run a stop sign. After initiating a traffic stop, an 18-yearold Elyria man immediately exited the vehicle and confronted officers saying, “you can search me, but you can’t search the vehicle, it’s not my car.”

While officers were searching him he told them all he had was marijuana and because he was outside the vehicle, officers could not search it, the report said.

He told officers several times, “I am an addict, I don’t sell drugs. I am an addict and I can’t help it.”

In a search of the vehicle and the other two occupants — a 52-year-old man from Grafton, and a 20-year-old woman from Elyria — officers uncovered two firearms, small amounts of cocaine and marijuana, a digital scale with cocaine residue, 7.2 grams of fentanyl, and additional drug paraphernalia, according to the report.

The fentanyl was found by officers in 52-year-old’s pant leg along with a glass pipe, the report said.

Tyler K. Abbe, 21, of Elyria, is charged with carrying concealed weapons, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, weapons under disability and possession of cocaine and marijuana, and misdemeanor traffic violations. He is currently being held in the Lorain County Jail on $70,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on May 21 for a preliminary hearing.
