The Browns spent much of the offseason upgrading their secondary, so it came as no surprise on May 18 when they traded starting cornerback Jamar Taylor to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Browns are getting only a sixth-round pick in return, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who was first to report the news.

Taylor started 15 games for the Browns in 2017. He broke up 10 passes. He had no interceptions and was credited with 48 tackles and 14 assists.

The Browns gave up 28 passing touchdowns last season.

General manager John Dorsey decided the secondary was too slow, so he signed cornerbacks T.J. Carrie, E.J. Gaines and Terrance Mitchell in free agency, took cornerback Denzel Ward with the fourth pick in the first round and cornerback Simeon Thomas in the sixth round of the draft last month.

Ward and Carrie are projected as the starting cornerbacks in 2018.

Taylor was a secondround pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2013. The Browns acquired Taylor on the final day of the 2016 draft. The two teams swapped seventh-round picks in the deal.

Taylor started 14 games and intercepted three passes for the Browns in 2016. The Browns gave up 36 passing touchdowns on their way to allowing 452 points.

In other news, the Browns claimed defensive lineman Marcell Frazier off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks and waived linebacker Austin Calitro. Frazier, 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, was signed by Seattle on May 4 as an undrafted rookie from Missouri. He recorded 87 tackles, 16.5 sacks, three forced fumbles in 36 college games. Calitro spent 13 games on the Browns practice squad last year.
