Commissioners award projects
Lorain County commissioners awarded three contracts during their brief May 23 meeting.
Sengas Construction of LaGrange is receiving the largest with $332,029 for the Nickle Plate Diagonal Road bridge replacement project.
The company’s bid was the most responsive of the pair of bids the county received May 15.
The Ohio Public Works Council will supply 89 percent of the funding with the county paying the remainder.
Work is scheduled to begin on or before July 15 and will be completed on or be- fore Nov. 15.
JenMet Construction of Lorain will receive $39,759 to repair and rehabilitate the North Main Street home of Tracie Haynes of Oberlin, as part of the Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program’s Private Rehabilitation and Home Repair program.
J.D. Indoor Comfort of Sheffield Village will receive $6,022 for work on the Paula Boulevard home of Geraldine Koehler of North Ridgeville, from the same program.
In other news, commissioners received and journalized a report on the condition of county ditches for 2018.
In discussion of the report, County Administrator James Cordes said there is a plan to make this informa- tion and other data on stormwater district projects readily available to the public.
Community Development Director Don Romancak said the Lorain County Engineer’s Office is looking at possibly using the county auditor’s geographic information system on its website.
“So people can easily call up and see visually where the ditches are that we’ve invested money in and are under maintenance, either through the stormwater district funding projects or previous,” Romancak said. “In addition, we would be highlighting other projects that the district has done throughout to give people an understanding of how their money is being spent and where it’s being spent.”
