Name: Madison Taylor Jones
Age: 18
Nationality: Irish
Sponsor : Midway Baptist Church
Parents: April Lawson and Calvin Jones
High school: Clearview High School In the future I plan to attend Lorain County Community College to major in dental hygiene. Costume: My costume was specially made and shows the “peasant” look. Ireland’s flag consists of three colors: green, white and orange. The costume displays all of those colors. White is the color of peace and purity. When Ireland’s flag was created, white was chosen as the central color to represent a lasting truce and hope for peace between the two sides. The green represents a Gaelic tradition while the orange represents the supporters of William of Orange.
Favorite tradition: Celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day, which is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Favorite native dish: Corn beef and cabbage. I have wanted to be an International Princess since I was a little girl. I participated in the parade for years with the Lorain City Soccer Association and I always enjoyed seeing all the princesses in their beautiful dresses. I am honored to represent my Irish Heritage in the Lorain International Festival. My great great grandmother, Irona McGee, never got to share much information with her children or grandchildren for me to know a lot about her family’s adventures. I am hoping that with this great experience I can learn more about my Irish heritage and all the other nationalities of these wonderful ladies.
