Rockin’ on the River set for successful year

BOUQUETS >> To Bob Earley and his Rockin’ on the River weekly summer concert series for kicking off its fourth season at the Black River Landing in downtown Lorain with a bang.

-

This year Earley will present 19 shows that will run through Sept. 1

The opening act May 25 featured The Michael Weber Show and was followed by Dirty Deeds Xtreme AC/DC Tribute band.

An enthusiastic Earley said it felt great to finally get back in action.

Earley quipped, “It’s just great. I mean the whole area’s taken to us and you can see the crowd here. Hell, it’s 6:15 and the Cavs are playing. This is the place to be tonight.”

And Weber, the 20-yearold guitar phenom from Akron, who sported a bluesyrock outfit, also thanked fans for coming out to support the group for their second year at Rockin’ on the River.

Rockin’ on the River has played a key role in highlighting the city’s waterfront and its potential for economic development possibilities.

Welcome back.

BOUQUETS » To Lorain native Jaclyn Bradley Palmer, who will have her newest music video featured at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Palmer’s latest song and video, “Love the Bodies We’re In,” will premiere June 15 at the iconic theater as part of the “Dances with Film” festival.

The theater best known for showcasing the handprints of Hollywood legends will feature the single shot film which was produced in the Netherlands and directed by William Serné.

It relays the importance of embracing all aspects of life’s journey.

Palmer said, “People that come in and out of our lives bring with them both beauty and pain. But it all, eventually, leads us to where we are meant to be.”

The song featured in the video is a single from Palmer’s latest EP titled “Be it Wild or Poetic.” It’s available for streaming and download on Spotify and iTunes.

Palmer’s previous music video, a tribute to the victims of gun violence, was an official selection at the 2017 Orlando Film Festival. She also has appeared on programs including “The Voice of Holland,” HGTV’s “House Hunters International,” VH1’s “Breaking Bonaduce” and Bravo’s “The Rachel Zoe Project.” Palmer’s voice and jingle could recently be heard in a commercial for Liberty Ford.

Palmer said right after the film festival, she plans to visit Lorain and attend the Lorain International Festival in June.

We congratulate Palmer on her latest venture.

BRICKBATS » To the three Cleveland Municipal School District students who police say assaulted a teacher and threatened a bus driver May 22 on their way home from a field trip to Cedar Point.

Sheffield Village and Lorain police officers and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded to Speedway, 5230 Detroit Road in Sheffield Village, following reports of outof control students.

According to a police report, the incident began on Interstate 90 in Vermilion when students began throwing water bottles and Nutri-Grain bars at the teacher.

Students also made verbal threats and leveled racial slurs toward the bus driver before they attempted to climb out the back door of the bus.

The bus pulled into the Speedway parking lot and was met by law enforcement.

Dr. Roseann Canfora, communications officer for the Cleveland Municipal School District, said in a written statement, the district has zero tolerance for fighting or for disruption of any school activities, and students face serious consequences when their actions pose a danger to themselves and others.

The students, who are innocent until proven guilty, are facing charges including assault on a teacher, aggravated menacing, inducing panic, criminal activity on school property, disorderly conduct and assault.

Instead of preparing for a summer vacation, the students will have to defend themselves against these serious charges.

But they put themselves in this predicament.

BRICKBATS » To the person responsible for the May 27 shooting death of Andre E. Hines, 23, of Elyria, and the injury of another man who is 22 years old.

Lorain police said Hines was shot about 2:20 a.m. near the 200 block of East 29th Street in an alley off Apple Avenue.

Hines suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

The 22-year-old was treated and released from the hospital.

Hopefully, the person responsible for the shooting will be apprehended soon.

We don’t want murderers roaming our streets.
