Visit Lorain County is in search of the best ice cream and chicken wings in the county chosen by the people.

The Scoop Ice Cream Trail and King of Wings competition was presented June 6 to Lorain County commissioners.

“We want people to get out there and explore Lorain County,” said Commissioner Matt Lundy. “And we’ve found that food events and trails have accomplished that in a really fun way, both for our own residents and out-of-county visitors.”

“Going out for ice cream can be such a bonding experience,” adds Commissioner Ted Kalo. “You go out with your team after a big game or with your family to celebrate a good report card.”

The best part? Not only will one try new flavors, but he or she will explore their own backyard, according to a news release.

Here’s the Scoop will take place from June 1 to Sept. 3.

Stop by the Lorain County Visitors Center, 8025 Leavitt Road in Amherst; Divine Scoops, 140 Lear Road in Avon Lake; Cowhaus Creamery, 55-1 E. College St. in Oberlin; Krieg’s It’z the

Berries, 3175 N. Ridge Road in Vermilion; Hot Dog Heaven, 493 Cleveland Ave. in Amherst; or Sundae Funday’s, 25145 Royalton Road in Columbia Station, to receive a lanyard and passport for $1 and to pick up a map including the 12 participating locations.

Then you hit the trail, receiving a 25 cent discount on ice cream products and getting your passport marked.

The discount only can be used by one person one time and only for ice-cream products, not slushies or any other type of foods or beverages.

Return to Visit Lorain County with your completed passport and you’ll receive a commemorative pin, the release said.

You’ll also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win free ice cream for a year.

The first step is to pick up your passport at the Lorain County Visitors Center or at participating locations.

Each participating location will have a “competition” wing available to order — $7 for a pound, dinein only.

You can only cast your vote for a restaurant that is marked as completed on your passport.
