- Staff report

LifeShare Community Blood Services has announced a new donor center in Elyria.

According to a news release, the nonprofit blood services organization is opening a new donor center at 710 Leona St., which will replace the aging facility at 333 East Bridge St. in Elyria

The old facility is set to be shuttered June 13.

On June 20, the new facility will open to the public following an invitation-only ribbon-cutting, according to the release.

As part of the festivities, blood donors who contribute between June 20 and June 30 will receive a $20 Giant Eagle gift card, the release said.

LifeShare reiterates the continued need for blood across the county saying Northeast Ohio alone requires 40,000 units a year to meet the needs of hospitals.

Type O and Type B negative donors are critically needed, but any blood type is welcome, according to the release.

It advises those who are interested may visit lifesharedonor.org or call 866644-5433 to schedule an appointment at any of their area facilities or a mobile blood drive.

Walk-ins always are welcome.
