But he outlined a number of points of pride that emerged during the school year and that are expected to continue in the next.

• Some teachers had restructured job duties, but none were cut.

• For the incoming Lorain High School class, 165 scholars will be in the Early College Academy. The high school will have four new Advance Placement courses.

• A new initiative will allow every student from grade six to 12 to have a laptop computer for instruction. That will make other devices available for younger grades, so just about every scholar will have a computer or tablet for education.

• Lorain schools refunded a bond that will result in savings of $457,595.

• All schools in 2018-2019 will have washers and dryers.

• Energy consumption in Lorain schools were cut almost in half.

• Along with a state final four basketball team, more than 60 scholar-athletes were recognized for their achievement.

• Lorain Schools TV 20 cable access programs is closing in on 1 million views.

Hardy also announced Lorain City Schools was one of six nationally to be selected for a $1 million grant from the Breakthrough Results Fund of Achievement Network, a national education nonprofit group.

In Lorain, 10 schools will get a dedicated coach, instructional tools and professional learning.
