An Elyria man is in trouble after police say he lead them on a chase and attempted to ditch a loaded firearm June 13.

Doyal R. Cannon, 32, was charged with aggravated trafficking, a firstdegree felony, weapons under disability, tampering with evidence, possession of drugs, all third-degree felonies, possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon, both fourth-degree felonies, obstructing official business, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, all fifth-degree felonies, resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to an Elyria police report.

Cannon was stopped by police at 5:45 p.m. in the 800 block of West River Road for not using his turn signal.

He got out of the vehicle and ran behind a nearby residence and over a backyard fence, according to the report.

Cannon then approached a cliff, which is about 100 feet deep, leading into Cascade Park, the report said.

He threw a firearm in the area and then descended the cliff into the park, according to the report.

Officers later arrested Cannon on a cliff side near the park’s nature center.

Police ended up finding the weapon, a .40-caliber Glock, with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.

Officers also found 7.7 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of Fentanyl and three Oxycodone inside Cannon’s car, the report said.

Cannon is in the Lorain County Jail without bond until his appearance at 2 p.m., June 18, before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Gary C. Bennett.
