Participants needed for mock health emergency
Lorain County Public Health works to protect residents in case of emergencies like natural disasters, disease outbreaks and terrorist attacks.
To help practice for an emergency situation, County Public Health needs residents to take part in a preparedness exercise, according to a news release.
The exercises will take place between 9 a.m. and noon, July 12, at Ewing Field House at Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria.
Lorain County residents of all ages and abilities may participate.
Children younger than age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The exercises are designed to get the community prepared and to observe an emergency management process, the release said.
There is no pre-registration required, according to the release.
Emergency preparedness workers will guide guests through steps they’d take in a real emergency, like pretend paperwork, pretend medication dispensing and pretend educational sessions, the release said.
The exercises will take 30 to 60 minutes.
The skills that responders and other community agencies refine through this pretend emergency can be applied to any large-scale, real-life emergency, according to the release.
Partners running the mock exercise include: LCCC, Emergency Management Agency, city of Elyria police and fire departments, County Public Health and LifeCare, the release said.
