Faulty wiring blamed for bedroom fire, cat dies

People escaped injury in a house fire in North Ridgeville, but a pet cat died as a result of the blaze.

The North Ridgeville Fire Department is investigat­ing a bedroom fire that killed a pet cat.

The fire was at 7300 Case Rd. at 12:22 a.m. June 24 in an upstairs room inside the residence, according to a news release by the North Ridgeville Fire Department.

Occupants were outside of the residence when the department arrived, and heavy smoke could be seen coming from an upstairs window. The crews quickly made an aggressive interior attack, controllin­g the fire at 12:37 a.m. The fire was stopped from spreading to the rest of the house. Overhaul and ventilatio­n was completed by 12:49 a.m. and the department left the scene by 1:47 a.m., the release said.

There were no injuries reported by the occupants, but a pet cat did perish as a result of the fire. The department does not know what caused the fire, but it is likely due to faulty wiring, the release said.

North Ridgeville responded with 10 personnel, three trucks and two command vehicles. North Ridgeville received mutual aid from Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield Village, and Elyria Fire Department­s. Ohio Edison and Columbia Gas also assisted, according to the release.

The total amount of damage is estimated to by roughly $35,000, according to North Ridgeville Fire Capt. Dan Rodgers.
