STORY TIME ADDS MOVES ‘N GROOVES

Family Story Time encourages movement, fun and laughter

There was singing and dancing at the Avon Lake Public Library this week and it will be going on for the rest of the summer as well.

The library held another one of their Family Story Times June 25 which featured stories and dance times for young children and their parents.

“We like to provide something where parents can bring their kids,” said librarian Carol Henderson. “We get a lot of people who come in for our 10:30 a.m. program. It is geared for children who are under 1 year to preschool age with a participating adult.”

Henderson said the program really picks up in the summertime.

“We expand the program to seven sessions a week,” she said. “It really provides that consistent outlet for parents, and we are happy to provide it.”

Henderson said the half-hour of events is jam packed with children entertainment.

“I will start off with a story” she said. “I then transition to a song that has them up and dancing. I then go back to a story, then a song, and an interactive poem. It is all about keeping them active.

Sitting too long would cause them to lose interest, and I want them to stay entertained and attentive.”

The story times will run until July 25. The start times are 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Mondays through Wednesdays. Mondays also have a 7 p.m. option. Parents are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early to get a ticket, but no pre registration is required. There won’t be any story times during the July 2 week, Henderson said.

Jim Jamison of Avon Lake was at the event with his granddaughters.

“They really enjoy coming,” he said. “They enjoy the stories and doing the activities. I babysit them on Mondays, so I’m glad the library does this.”

Amanda Byrnes, also of Avon Lake, brought her two children to the story time.

“They like the story time,” she said. “They also like getting their prize and all the music that’s playing as well. My son is also at the age where he likes to be around the other kids. It’s really a good time.”
