Police search for bank robbery suspect

-

Lorain police officers are looking for a man who they say used a gun to rob a bank and escaped on foot.

The robbery occurred at 12:31 p.m. July 9 at Chase Bank, 5971 N. Leavitt Road in Lorain, according to a news release from the Cleveland FBI office.

The suspect, believed to be younger than 40 years old, entered the bank armed with a black revolver, the release said.

“The suspect was wearing tan pants, a grey hooded sweatshirt, black mask and white gloves,” said Lorain police Sgt. Dennis Camarillo. “Witness reported that he had a black duffel bag.”

The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and headed north toward the area of Eastman Drive, Camarillo said.

At this point, officers are checking the area to see if they can locate the suspect and or any evidence of the events, he said.

“No injuries reported,” the detective said. “Multiple witnesses said they saw a weapon. He was pointing it at the patrons.”

The lone suspect is being described as roughly six feet tall and darker skinned, either a Hispanic or African American male, according to Camarillo.

“Anyone that has any information that might have been around the area, and seen somebody running in a certain direction, we encourage them to call us, 440-204-2100, as soon as possible,” said Lorain police Sgt. Buddy Sivert. “Obviously, this guy, if he’s armed, he’s dangerous.”

Tips can be provided to the Cleveland FBI at 216522-1400.

Also, tips can remain anonymous and reward money is available for information leading to the successful identification and prosecution of the individual responsible, the release said.
