State Sen. Gayle Manning honors LCCC

-

State Sen. Gayle Manning, a North Ridgeville Republican, honored Lorain County Community College for being named the top community college for student success in the United States by the American Association of Community Colleges.

“It is an honor to recognize the achievements of Lorain County Community College,” said Senator Manning. “LCCC is a trailblazer in this area of student success and continues to serve as a shining example in educational innovation, preparing students to meet the growing demands of our state’s workforce.”

The American Association of Community Colleges defines student success rates by measuring completion, transfer and persistence. According to the Ohio Department of Higher Education, LCCC’s success rate surpasses the state average by 9 percent.

“We are absolutely delighted that Ohio is on the map of having a community college that is number one in the country,” said Dr. Marcia Ballinger, President of LCCC. “We appreciate the efforts of the Senate and the House to emphasize the momentum and support of student completion, lowering the cost, and the time to degree completion.”

LCCC now offers a new degree program that will allow students, studying microelectronic manufacturing, to receive a bachelor’s degree at a fraction of the cost of most traditional 4-year institutions. Senator Manning spearheaded the legislation that helped make LCCC one of three community colleges in the state that will be allowed to move its students beyond associate degree attainment in an effort to meet the workforce demands of local job creators.
