Police investigate shots fired early in the morning
Elyria Police are investigating early morning gunshots heard July 11 on Garden Street.
Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino said officers responded to two women parked nearby on Garden Street, who were standing next to a Ford Fusion with a shattered rear window and a bullet hole in a right rear taillight.
“One of the women said she was walking toward the car when a dark-colored SUV drove by with a black male hanging out the back left window, firing multiple shots toward their vehicle. Fortunately, none of the women were injured,” he said.
Earlier, officers responded at 2:52 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the area of Barbara and Allen streets. They couldn’t find any activity, but at 3:04 a.m. found a bullet hole that went through one home on Garden Street.
They later found two bullet holes in the other half of the duplex. One of those bullets traveled through both homes.
“We were very fortunate no one was hurt,” Costantino said. “There were people in these homes, so it is very fortunate nothing worse happened.”
Costantino said the department appreciates any help they can receive in identifying those responsible.
“This is something we take very seriously,” he said. “We’re still sorting this out. We are thankful for any help.”
