Lake Ridge Academy announces two National Merit Scholarship winners
Two Lake Ridge Academy seniors were named 2018 National Merit Scholarship recipients. Elizabeth Coble of Avon Lake and Noah Kawaguchi of Amherst join the group of 7,500 National Merit Scholarship winners who were selected from a pool of 15,000 finalists.
Elizabeth Coble is attending The University of Chicago and Noah Kawaguchi is attending Oberlin College this fall.
The National Merit Scholarship program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarship funds that began in 1955. About 1.6 million juniors entered the program
by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The top scores in critical reading, mathematics and writing skills advance only 16,000 students to the Semifinalist list, which represents less than 1% of the nation’s top high school seniors.
Finalists are selected by reviewing the student’s academic record, written essay, participation in school and community activities, evidence of leadership and any other honors or awards received.
