Ward 4 councilman to resign elected office
Mark Craig plans move to Vermilion
Elyria Ward 4 Councilman Mark F. Craig announced July 10 his resignation from City Council effective July 31.
Craig said he is moving outside of the city to Vermilion and he is resigning because of another opportunity he wants to pursue.
This is Craig’s 11th year representing the 4th ward. He ran for office because of experience he could offer. Voters first elected him in 2007.
He said serving the 4th ward and the city of Elyria, along with fellow Council members, has been a job he’s “really enjoyed over the years.”
“I feel as if I did a good job serving my residents, staying informed and keeping them informed,” Craig said. “(I believe) I’ve helped the residents meet their needs. It’s a job I will certainly miss.”
In his time as a councilman, Craig said he’s received appreciation and positive communication from residents and others who have worked hard to make the 4th ward a better place.
“That’s something that will always stay with me,” he said.
Craig said he first got involved with city government when Elyria had a city income tax issue.
Craig said his plans of running for office in Vermilion have been a consideration, but he said wants to become comfortable in the city before he makes a decision.
“I wish more people would consider stepping up (and run for city council),”
“I feel as if I did a good job serving my residents, staying informed and keeping them informed... It’s a job I will certainly miss.”

Craig said. “It’s not as difficult as people may think, and there’s (many) people who can help.”
Craig will attend his last Council session July 25, which is a meeting for the utilities committee.
Law Director Scott Serazin was unavailable to answer questions as to who will temporarily replace Craig.
