BW students study in Dominican Republic
Area students were among the 18 who participated in Baldwin Wallace’s “Discover the Dominican Republic “study abroad program, a transformative learning experience focusing on food and nutrition in the Dominican Republic, during the spring 2018 semester.
The following local students participated:
Riley Schill of Sheffield Lake, a graduate of Elyria Catholic High School majoring in biology.
Troi Dotson of North Fairfield, a graduate of Norwalk High School majoring in early childhood education.
Anne Quisno of Port Clinton, a graduate of Oak Harbor High School majoring in exercise science.
Sherrie Rivera of Amherst, a graduate of Lorain High School majoring in sociology.
The students completed courses exploring topics of food and nutrition before going on the two—week experience led by Dr. Megan Frank and Dr. Charles Campisi, professors in the School of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The program gives students an opportunity to learn about culture, history, and food and nutrition in the Dominican Republic through hands—on experiences, lectures and their time living with host families. Students also visited non—governmental organizations, go on tours of banana production and a cigar factory, and attend cooking and dancing classes.
