Lorain City Schools is rolling out the Titan Pride Apparel Equity Program with the goal of providing a set of uniforms to every scholar by the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, according to a July 31 news release.

Thanks to generous partner and local uniform provider, Schoolbelles, “Titan Pride Packages” will be offered and include three polo shirts — emblazoned with the Lorain Titans shield and sword, two pair of pants, a belt and one Titan Pride T-shirt, the release said.

Each package will be offered at the deep discounted price of $56 plus $5 for shipping for youth sizes, and $60.50 plus $5 for shipping for adult sizes.

Information on how families can take advantage of this deal ahead of the tax free holiday can be found at www.lorainschools.org. The district also announced updates to its dress code policy, adding black and gray to the list of permitted colors for pants and shirts along with khaki and navy. The much anticipated dress code was first announced by the district on July 25 following concerns from parents with the Aug. 3-5 sales tax

“As we share this exciting news, we are humbled to announce The Cleveland Browns organization has committed to supporting this program and have already pledged to provide 1,500 scholars with ‘Titan Pride Packages,’ ” according to the release. “Through the Cleveland Browns Give Back Program, this generous contribution will see 10,500 garments distributed, by the start of this school year, to scholars in kindergarten through ninth grade.

“The Cleveland Browns Give Back Program is focused on supporting initiatives that target at-risk students and removing the barriers to school attendance by providing them with the opportunity to be dressed and present in a positive learning environment, 100 percent of the time.”

Lorain City Schools CEO David Hardy Jr. expressed gratitude for the commitment from the Cleveland Browns.

“We are humbled to receive this level of support from the Browns Organization,” Hardy said. “It is clear that Dee and Jimmy Haslam not only care about athletics, but the importance of education as well. The excitement they have created for our community and our school district is remarkable.

“And because of their support, we are seeing more and more supporters, locally and nationally, who are finding ways to support our district’s transformation. There is a path towards success and we are clearly on it.”

The district still needs help in closing the attendance gap of all scholars and is presently looking for individuals, companies and organizations to sponsor the program.

Anyone interested in sponsoring is asked to contact Elena Gonzalez, chief of staff. Each sponsored package will remove the barriers to attendance and present opportunities to be dressed and present in a positive learning environment 100 percent of the time, the release said.
