Detroit man accused of concealing drugs

A Detroit man is in trouble after police say he was part of a police car chase July 30 and attempted to conceal drugs from officers.

Kelvin D. Parker-Bell, 25, was charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and possession of a schedule four substance, a fifth-degree felony, after police say he attempted to conceal 25 pills of alprazolam (Xanax), according to an Elyria police report.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Morgan Avenue near Lorain Boulevard at 9:07 p.m., but the vehicle, a black Toyota Camry driven by a 29-yearold Lorain man, with Parker-Bell in the backseat and an unknown black male in the passenger seat, drove off.

Officers caught the vehicle in a parking lot in the 500 block of Bell Avenue, but the driver and front passenger fled the scene on foot heading west and police were unable to locate them, the report said.

Parker-Bell remained at the scene where drugs and $3,971 in cash were found on him, according to the report.

Officers also found cocaine and two fully loaded semi-automatic handguns on the ground in the direction the two suspects fled, the report said.

Police also found four cellphones, a black digital scale and 5.1 grams of marijuana in the vehicle, according to the report.

Parker-Bell was lodged at the Lorain County Jail on a 12,500 bond. His Elyria Municipal Court date has not yet been released.
