BP under construction at 28th, Broadway
October opening scheduled, owner says
A new gasoline station is under construction at 28th Street and Broadway.
Galilee Property Group is building a new BP prototype station at 2803 Broadway with four pumps that will provide eight fueling points, and there will be diesel available, said Fred Faraj, managing member of the company.
So far, the construction schedule is on track, Faraj said.
“We just started the block construction there,” he said. “The building itself, they’re hoping to have everything in line and have an opening date for October.”
The station will have coffee and a kitchen to prepare takeout food made to order through digital screens, Faraj said.
It likely will have about a dozen full and part-time employees, with a manager, assistant manager and associates.
The hiring process likely will begin in September, Faraj said.
Galilee Property Group has businesses in Cuyahoga and Lake counties, he said.
The building permit lists the investment at $185,000 for the new station.
It lists the permit holder as Oday Properties LLC, but that is an error, Faraj said.
Oday Properties is the previous owner; Galilee Property Group bought the site in January 2017.
The company is working as its own general contractor, with excavating by Diggers of Ohio of Amherst, Faraj said.
The lot previously was a BP gas station, but was closed.
Underground fuel storage tanks were removed in 2005, so the new station will have new tanks, Faraj said.
The station will have energy efficient LED lighting and a contemporary look with modern building products, he said.
“It’ll be an upgrade to what we normally see in our gas stations in town,” said Lorain architect Gary Fischer, who drafted the blueprints approved at Lorain’s Building, Housing and Planning Department.
The city Design Review Board approved the aesthetics of the new station in October 2017.
