Commissioners approve business loan
Lorain County commissioners approved Aug. 15 a seven-year $222,404 loan for machinery and equipment to a Vermilion company.
Coleys Inc., 1775 Liberty Ave., is a CNC Machining shop which has had two expansion projects in the past decade.
According to a news release distributed after the meeting, Coleys will be able to leverage an additional $246,000 in public and private funds as well as create six new jobs.
“Coleys is a company with over 40 years of good operating history making them the perfect fit for this program, and we wish to do many loans like theirs in the future,” Commission President Ted Kalo said in the release.
The loan is part of the county’s revolving loan fund which receives its funds through community block grants, the release said.
During the meeting, there was very little discussion of the loan, but Kalo said the company has been a partner of the county for a long time.
“They do a really good job out there and good luck with their new piece of equipment,” he said.
In other news, commissioners approved the Lorain County Solid Waste and Recyclables Collection Consortium bylaws after it was presented by County Administrator James Cordes.
“We got those ironed out in time for the new bid,” Cordes said.
The consortium uses the “combined economic muscle” of the member communities to get better rates on trash and recyclables pickup.
It will be made up of townships and villages in the county as well as Avon Lake, Cordes said.
