Council looks to upgrade Harris Road
Sheffield Lake city council is aiming to make improvements to Harris Road in 2019.
At a special meeting on Aug. 28, Council approved a resolution authorizing an application for assistance from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Capital Improvement funding.
The project has an estimated price tag of between $1.2-1.3 million and City Superintendent Pat Hastings said the resolution combines both resurfacing and water line replacements on Harris Road into one funding source with the potential to save the city anywhere from $75-100,000 in interest payments, contractors and some of the cross-engineering. “As everybody’s aware through meetings and committees, the mayor wanted to move forward with resurfacing of Harris Road and the waterline much like the Lake Breeze (Road) project. As you know you’ve already passed a resolution to apply for the resurfacing portion of that for round 33,” Hastings said.
“However, crunching the numbers with the engineer this past Friday, in just a couple years the cost is up for a very similar project. So I talked to the finance director on some strategies, one of which would be to combine into a single loan with the OPWC both projects,” Hastings added.
In going through the OPWC process, Hastings said bidding is expected to take place in July, 2019 for the project.
In other business, Council approved the hiring of Angela Wtulich as a full-time dispatcher for the Sheffield Lake Police Department.
In a corresponding move, Wtulich submitted her resignation as a member of the Sheffield Lake Planning Commission.
