JVS students return to classes

The 2018-19 Lorain County JVS school year kicked off with over 900 students entering through the front doors.

High school Principal Jill Petitti is looking forward to this new school year.

“We are very excited for the year to start. There are a lot of new faces, both students and new staff members, and we are eager to get the year under way,” she said.

Lorain County JVS serves students in grades 9-12 with each student receiving individualized, hands-on learning experiences.

Maddison Morrow, a 10th-grader from Amherst, shared her thoughts on the first day of school.

“I’m really excited to meet new people and I’m looking to make this school year really great so that I can get into the Allied Health program next year,” she said.

Dr. Glenn Faircloth, Lorain County JVS superintendent, along with Petitti, visited classrooms on the first day, as a way to welcome students to the school district and the new school year.

“What makes Lorain County JVS so special is that not only do we educate high school and adult learners, but we have the ability to change lives,” said Faircloth. “We offer all of our students programs and industry credentials that will allow them to gain a job, and not just a job, but a career.”

Michael Marsh, Computerized Design and Drafting senior from Midview, has a jump start on his career and is excited to be starting his senior year at JVS. “I was an intern through the JVS this summer and worked at Technifab Inc. in Avon. It was a great experience and now I am excited to get this year going and be closer to starting college to major in mechanical engineering.”

High school students in the 11th and 12th grades can explore over 23 career options through a wide range of career-technical programs in the following career areas: Building Trades, Business & Marketing, Culinary, Healthcare, Manufacturing & PreEngineering, Transportation, and Service. Students in the 9th and 10th grade programs work in structured lab settings to help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary for acceptance into the careertechnical programs as juniors and seniors.
