Mercy Health – Oberlin Primary Care: Going Above and Beyond to Serve Patients

- Mercy Health – Oberlin Primary Care is located at 319 W. Lorain Street in Oberlin. Appointments are available by calling 440-775-1881.

“Unbelievable kindness. Simply the best. Always treated like family.” This is how 70-yearold Linda Byrley describes the staff at Mercy Health – Oberlin Primary Care. She has been under the watchful care of Mindy Riedy, certified nurse practitioner, for the past two years. The Wellington resident says that no other physicians or nurses compare to what she calls “her extended family.”

No stranger to complex medical issues, Linda has undergone several surgeries, almost died from multiple blood clots and has been rushed several times to local emergency departments due to complications from sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disorder that affects internal organs and lungs. She says that, at times, it is difficult to keep fighting, but Mindy and staff keep her spirits high and focused on recovery.

“Mindy and everyone who works in the Oberlin office are exceptional,” described Linda. “I have seen many doctors throughout my life, but I have never been to a practice where everyone shows such compassion and is so supportive. And, it is not just the compassion,

the care is amazing. When I feel like giving up, Mindy says, “I will fight for you.’

“As a patient, you are not just another number coming through the door, they take the time to know you and understand your needs. Every time I go for an appointment, I get smiles and ‘hellos’ from everyone. The remarkable care doesn’t end at the practice door, I have also received outstanding care while a patient at Mercy Regional Medical Center. When a health system consistently shows this level of care, you have to be impressed.”

An Oberlin native and now a long-time resident of Wellington, Linda says she has had the opportunity to visit other physician practices and hospitals. “While some hospitals and providers do an adequate job of caring for the actual illness, they miss the fact that they are caring for a human being, someone who has family and friends who depend on them. Mindy values that connection and knows that my life has value to others.”

“I want to thank Mindy and the staff at Mercy Health – Oberlin Primary Care for keeping my sister alive,” explained Rita Jones, Linda’s older sister. “She has endured numerous medical conditions, but they have taken care of her better than any doctor or provider has done in her entire life.”

Although Linda lives with several chronic medical conditions, she says they are better managed thanks to Mindy and her team. “When you have medical professionals who will not give up and are dedicated to ensuring that you have a better, more comfortable life, it makes all the difference. I am always happy to see them because I know that I am getting the right care at this point in my life.

“Some examples of their genuine concern include when I visited last December after a hospital stay and every staff member greeted me with a hug. Recently, on my 70th birthday I was surprised when staff broke out into the happy birthday song. They also treated me to a cupcake to mark the occasion. Now that just doesn’t happen every day!”
