The Ritter Library, 5680 Liberty Ave. in Vermilion, held its Afternoon Craft Club on Sept. 5 teaching adults how to make an impressive, homemade greeting card.

“I teach the session once a month that utilizes paper crafts,” said Cindy Brown, demonstrator for Stampin’ Up, a company that sells products for homemade crafts. “Paper crafts is what I specialize in, and there is plenty you can do when using paper as the primary part of any craft.”

Brown said the theme of this month’s session was Thanksgiving cards.

“You don’t have to make a Thanksgiving card, but it really is the only time to get it done,” she said. “Next month, we will do something for Halloween, and in November, we’re going to do Christmas stuff because almost everyone does something for Christmas. That’s my favorite theme for crafts.”

Brown said she tries to do crafts that have different steps that can be done in any order.

“There’s only so much supplies,” she said. “I like to have it so people can simultaneously go to different stations.

“I don’t want people to be sitting around waiting for a station to free up.”

Brown said her card making has a process to follow, but it

allows for individuality.

“They will score, stamp, fold and cut to make their cards,” she said. “I have a sample one made, and the process produces a very well-made and designed card.

“I enjoy showing them the process and then seeing where they take it from there.”

Carol Mossa, a Wakeman resident, enjoyed the card class.

“I like making cards, so this was the perfect program for me,” Mossa said.

“I know Cindy and her cards are amazing, so I was hoping to learn a few things. It’s also very relaxing making cards.”

Marsha Reip of Vermillion said the class was a great opportunity to learn about crafting cards.

“I’ve always liked making cards,” Reip said. “This class allows me to learn some new techniques.”

The next craft club will take place at 1 p.m., Oct. 3, and will feature Halloween treats.
