38th annual Apple Festival returns
The 38th annual Elyria Apple Festival will return Sept. 21-23 to Ely Square and the downtown area for a weekend full of activities for everyone.
Linda Brown, the coordinator of the Apple Festival and its annual Princess Pageant, said the festival could bring in 50,000 guests.
For the youngsters, there will be a basketball challenge, a magic balloon man and other children’s games.
For the “older kids,” or adults, there will be the annual car show Sept. 23 on the corner of Broad Street and West Avenue, the Apple Pie Baking Contest and the fifth annual Cornhole Tournament on Sept. 22.
The Elyria High School Marching band, local bands and dance teams will perform, and events like the 5K Run and princess pageant will take place.
Food vendors and nonprofit organizations will have booths.
Brown said she has been involved with the Apple Festival for over 30 years and it has continued to grow each year.
The festival has been an opportunity to get the community together to celebrate their city, she said. The festival developed its name because Elyria is in an apple growing county, Brown said.
“We’re ready to go,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the weather. People enjoy that weather. And (looking forward) for people to participate and have a good time.”
The festival is all about the community getting back together every year and celebrating the amazing things they have in Elyria.
The Elyria Apple Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 21; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 22; and noon to 6 p.m., Sept. 23. There is no charge to attend.
