Carroll: Kendricks will play vs. Bears

-

New Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks will play Sept. 17 against the Bears despite his pending jail sentence.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Kendricks would make his Seattle debut due to major injuries at linebacker. The Seahawks ruled out both of its starting linebackers, K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner, due to injuries. Wright is still a week away from returning from minor knee surgery and Wagner suffered a groin injury in Week 1.

“The background that he has and the instincts that he has and he’s been coached really well over the years, he really has a chance to pick it up really quickly and get in there and help us,” Carroll said.”

CLEMSON PLAYS ON

» No. 2 Clemson and Georgia Southern got a sunny sky, mild breezes and plenty of tailgaters at the start of the only major conference football game played Saturday in the Carolinas and Virginia while Tropical Storm Florence dumped dangerous amounts of rain elsewhere across the region.

Clemson officials moved up the start time to noon from 3:30 p.m. because forecasts called for a more significant impact from Florence later Sept. 15 and Sept. 16. By halftime of the Tigers’ 38-7 victory, conditions were changing.

Gray clouds hovered over the stadium, with the wind picking up enough to blow around papers and knock ballcaps off heads.
