Joseph, a league source confirmed on Sept. 17.

“We felt real good about his workout,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said on a conference call Sept. 17. “He did an excellent job. A young player, he has the chance hopefully to be very consistent as we move forward. He has a strong leg obviously, too.

“He fits all the criteria that we’re looking for in a kicker. We feel good about him, and obviously, he has to go do it.”

Joseph was in the training camp of the Miami Dolphins this summer. He lost a duel to Jason Sanders, a 2018 seventhround choice by the Dolphins.

Joseph connected on field goal tries of 48, 54 and 33 yards in his only attempts during the Dolphins preseason.

“My goal was to be the best me I could be, and I do think I showcased that,” Joseph told reporters in Miami before being cut.

“What this camp has done for my confidence and my competitiveness is second to none. I’m just happy to have had this opportunity to learn about myself as a man and an athlete. I can’t wait to take that knowledge and apply it to life.”

Gonzalez was in his second season with the Browns. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Gonzalez was kicking with a groin injury when he missed the four kicks in New Orleans. Despite that, all four of his kickoffs reached the end zone.

Gonzalez was scheduled to have an MRI on Sept. 17, Schefter reported.

Jackson said no one from the Browns medical staff told him Gonzalez was injured.
