North Ridgeville man under arrest following multi-jurisdictional car chase
A 43-year-old North Ridgeville man is facing charges after police say he led them on a multi-jurisdictional car chase Sept. 19.
Brent J. Azzardi was charged with failure to comply, a third-degree felony, obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony, and stop sign, marked lanes and open container, all minor misdemeanors, after a chase that started due to a traffic violation, according to an Elyria police report.
Officers saw Azzardi’s vehicle at 11:25 p.m. pass through the stop sign at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Woodford Avenue in Elyria, the report said.
The car continued south on Gateway and police caught up to it on West River Road, but it continued on, according to the report.
Officers from the Amherst and Lorain police departments, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Lorain County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase.
Azzardi passed other vehicles in no passing zones along with other violations before he was caught by the Lorain police K-9 Unit in the area of 21st Street and Leavitt Road, according to the report.
He was hiding in an area not far from where he parked the vehicle, the report said.
Police found multiple open bottles of Bud Light in Azzardi’s vehicle, according to the report.
Azzardi, who was released on a $9,190 bond, must appear at 2 p.m. Sept. 27 before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Robert C. White.
