Urban Meyer is back in the saddle vs. Tulane

- By Fuad Shalhout

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, watching on TV at home while serving a suspension, got so worked up during the TCU game last week that he had to leave the room when the Buckeyes struggled.

Browns fans got their wish. Well, make that three.

Baker Mayfield playing? Check. A Browns win? Check. Free Bud Light? Check. The Browns picked up a 21-17 win over the Jets on Sept. 20 at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Not only did that mean their first win in 635 days, but fans that were in attendance at Panini’s in Westlake on Detroit Rd. got free Bud Light. It was one of 10 locations in Ohio that offered the promotion.

Owner Nick LaVigna was at the forefront of it all.

“I was flattered to be considered as a host,” LaVigna said. “Our fans here in Cleveland are up for anything. And then to have a promotion through Budweiser, it created so much excitement.”

Panini’s had more people in attendance than it typically would have on a Thursday night.

LaVigna added that there were 265 Bud Lights in the cooler and the capacity crowd Panini’s can hold is 460. Fans received the beer on a first come, first serve basis, handed out by representatives of Budweiser.

When the clock hit all zeroes,

a frenzy ensued.

“I will always support the Browns, no matter how bad they are,” said LaVigna, who is also a firefighter in Parma.

Justin Ferrari, a bartender, had his hands full serving the thirsty Browns fans.

He was working on the night the fridge was delivered and was speechless.

Ferrari added the night was “good for the bar and

good for my pocket.”

“I can’t complain and we appreciate Bud Light for it,” he said. “But it will actually hurt our business for this Sunday because the Browns won’t play. But this is exciting and there is only 10 of these fridges around, so it’s cool.”

Two of the Budweiser representatives, Robin Fertal and Heather Martin, handed out the beer during the celebration.

“I’ve been doing promotions for a long time and this is definitely something everyone enjoys,” Martin said.

The Bud Light promotion received a heavy amount of attention, prompting a Tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter after the game.

On a night the Browns finally snapped the winless drought, it was a night fans at the Panini’s will remember for a long time.
