Lorain parents can learn about Lorain City Schools programs and how to get involved starting with a meeting planned Sept. 25.

The inaugural Family First Focus Session will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Lorain High School, 2600 Ashland Ave.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will allow parents to meet and hear from the chief family officers of the school buildings, according to plans.

It is a chance for parents to understand how the chief family officers can help families and students find success.

Parents may express their needs and concerns.

The meeting also will be preparation for Lorain City Schools’ first “Family University” session that will come in October.

The Family University has grown out of The Lorain Promise, the academic turnaround plan implemented to guide the district out of the state’s academic distress rating.

“We value our families and want to engage with them more deeply,” said Lorain Schools CEO David Hardy Jr. “And we want to reach more of our families to understand their needs, and then therefore, provide them the support for them to continue being great parents and family members as they are.

“So, our hope is that through these family focus groups, we’ll understand our community even more deeply and then be better prepared to serve them.”
