Where’s the ‘damage’; it’s not about the law anymore

- Don Race New London

The Morning Journal continues to print the drivel spurting forth from Jonah Goldberg (see opinion on 9/23/18), and I continue to respond which occasionally gets printed. So who needs fair or balanced.

In this case, Jonah is pretty much right on with his criticism of how liberals are treating Judge Kavenaugh. But then, Jonah just can’t help himself when he takes another shot at our president: “Donald Trump has received an enormous amount of criticism for the damage he’s done to constitutional and democratic norms.”

This without any evidence of any alleged “damage.”

That is what Goldberg does, he just can’t help himself. Maybe the media should start listing the accomplishments since Trump was inaugurated. There are many.

But getting back to Kavenaugh, unfortunately, this is not about the law. It is about the court of public opinion. One would think that Congress, our lawmakers, would abide by the principles set forth in our Constitutional Bill of Rights. Think again. What Kavenaugh is being accused of is a crime. The Sixth Amendment states that “the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury” (Senator Hirono is impartial?) “to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for finding witnesses in his favor ...” Well, this is a 36-yearold alleged crime. So much for speedy. And where do we find witnesses with a fresh recollection of what is alleged to have happened?

This is really about obstruct and delay. Who cares if they destroy the reputation of a good man in the process?

Many years ago, the Democrats tried to lynch Justice Clarence Thomas. They are using that same scenario again. If we the people continue to support the disgusting members of the Senate who are perpetuating this injustice, qualified jurors will no longer be willing to serve us on our Supreme Court.

Wake up, America, this is really hurting us.
