Failure to yield crashes a problem in Huron County

- Staff report

Failure to yield crashes accounted for 26 percent of the total injury and fatal crashes over the past three years in Huron County, according to a news release.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking motorists to pay attention to which vehicles have the right of way and yield to them.

In addition, motorists can reduce the likelihood of being involved in a crash by slowing down and watching cross traffic as they approach all intersections, according to the release.

Some of the high crash intersections in Huron County are:

• U.S. 20 at state Route 601,

• State Route 18 at state Route 601,

• State Route 103 at state Route 598

• State Route 4 at state Route 113

• U.S. 20 at Hartland Center Road

For the rest of 2018, Norwalk troopers will maintain high visibility at all high crash intersections and, with help from aviation, utilize strict enforcement of failure to yield violations to make Huron County roads safer, the release said.

“Traffic can be frustrating, but that’s no excuse to endanger yourself and other drivers,” said Lt. C. Gullet, Norwalk post commander. “It’s always best for all motorists to remain calm and yield to other vehicles that have the right of way.”

The Highway Patrol is asking motorists to call #677 to report impaired drivers or drug activity.
