Lorain’s ground game too much for Warrensvil­le

Lorain dashed over Warrensvil­le Heights on homecoming night, pulling off the 50-20 victory on Oct. 5.

The Titans were led by the running attack of backs Savon Chavis and Cairo Smith. The running back unit totaled 298 yards on the ground, along with scoring seven touchdowns.

Lorain took a 7-0 lead on

junior running back Chavis’ 5-yard score.

Warrensvil­le Heights answered quickly when quarterbac­k Devyn Byers flashed across the field for a 38-yard touchdown, but failed on the conversion to keep the Titans in the lead, 7-6.

Lorain’s running game continued rolling over Warrensvil­le Heights. Smith trotted in for his first score and added a second moments later for a 20-6 Lorain lead.

Warrensvil­le Heights answered back with Byers’ 4-yard run to make it 20-12.

However, the Titans remained in the driver seat and continued putting the ball on the ground. Chavis’ 1-yard score, his second of the night, put Lorain up, 28-12, at halftime

Smith scored a second-half touchdown, with Tyshawn Lighty scoring twice on the ground for a 50-20 final score.

LORAIN » Chavis carried the ball 15 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Smith ran the ball for 14 times for 37 yards and three scores. WARRENSVIL­LE HEIGHTS » Quarterbac­k Devyn Byers ran nine times for 88 yards and three scores.
